Couture Fashion Week | Christian Dior Spring 2010 Couture

1 February 2010

If the world of high fashion descended on the Kentucky Derby, the end result would be the Christian Dior Couture Spring 2010 collection. Designer John Galliano presented a collection fit for a day at the races with everything from wide brimmed hats and full skirts to over-the-elbow gloves and riding crops making up the ensembles.

Galliano decked the derby’s spectators out in lace dresses and skirt suits. In keeping with the racing theme, the models representing horseback riders wore riding jackets, long skirts and gloves. J’adore the structure of the riding jackets – the cinched waists complemented the amorphous shape of the skirts, which stopped just a few inches above the ankles.

The final looks were definitely designed with the the gala following the race in mind. Galliano presented glamorous multicolored gowns that expanded at the waist – brown netting burst from beneath the skirt of a purple halter, a fitted green bodice gave way to a voluminous navy skirt and a pink tube top faded into a sea of scalloped green tulle.
Equestrian never looked so chic!
